Oh hello Summer!
Hello lovelies!
This is the first post tagged under ‘summer’; and it feels waaaay too great! Yep, June is here, sun is here, warm days are present, skies are blue, morning school runs are done and I wear thin dresses and Birkenstocks, even though it’s only 7 a.m., the little Misses are counting the days until schools and exams are over, and, as about me…. cotton yarns are back in my project bag and a broad smile is in my face 😀
Last days were all about summer colours and summer makings. I started with this blue garland, a simple granny triangle garland which made my heart sing~ I’ve got this thing with garlands, you see, they are so quick to make and so versatile. One can play with colours, textures, shapes, put them up anywhere and quickly transform any place. I love using them to add a seasonal kiss to Cherry Frog’s ponds, different ones for Christmas time (hanging at the mantel), for spring (hanging at the bookcase of our living room) and for summer (hanging at the porch). No garland yet for autumn, hmmm, I’ll need to fix this I guess.
After the triangle garland took its place at our porch, I spent some time crocheting cute little mandalas, which were supposed to turn to yet another garland. But they didn’t, as the free me-time had to give its place to “drive to the event and stay there loooong hours” kind of thing. The little Misses were invited to a party, which took place at an adventure park, where kids do all kinds of activities, while parents, hmm, parents actually sit on a bench and melt under the hot sun. Exactly this. It was not a win-win situation, but sometimes one win only does the trick. Said another way, the girls enjoyed it big time.
I was so happy to come back home afterwards, throw away sneakers and socks and walk barefoot on the cool floor… and then have nothing, absolutely nothing planned! So, I took my seat at the porch, made myself an ice cold coffee, carried all my t-shirt yarn and my huge hooks and dipped into the pleasure of making bags, out of Emily’s splendid moon bag pattern.
I’ve made two of them, one smaller with a pink pom-pom trim and bright dotted lining and another one, bigger this time, a turquoise fringe version with red and white stripes lining. The pink one was given to a friend who’s going through tough times and I thought that some pink could brighten up her days, and the other one is waiting for a passing strap, as the black one I had doesn’t make it justice.
And as the garland and bag mania slowly subsided, one nice evening of last week, I thought it was about time to let the hooks aside and spend some time on my digital self. So, I set up an Instagram account for the pictures of all fellow crafters, who have been utterly kind and used my hashtag #hugsarehandmade, with the hope that this will eventually become the place where we’ll all share our love for handmade hugs. You may find it on Instagram as @hugsarehandmade, if you fancy joining the party <3
Today it’s a beatiful Tuesday, I’m sitting at my office working on some legal documents and at the same time my head is buzzing with whole lots of creative ideas about next projects, summer shawls, afternoon coffees and late evening drinks with friends, handmade gifts, holiday destinations and sea promises.
Ah, summer is here <3
Hope you’re having a fabulous day or night, be it summer or autumn at your spot of the globe
Froggy kisses from the pond
