The beginning
So, this is the beginning of a journey if I dare say…
I’ve been a silent member of the online crochet & creative community for a number of years, reading, scrolling, admiring others and at the same time constantly buying yarn along with numerous other supplies and creating myself~ In the beginning I thought that this crochet love would soon fade, (which it didn’t..), so it took me several years before deciding that crochet is a biiiiig love which is here to stay.
During all the years of my wandering to the online crochet world, I’ve digitally met people who write beautifully, post the most beautiful pictures of their everyday lives and creations, people who made my days and inspired me; reading their blogs and social media posts is the best part of my everyday routine, which starts at…
6.30 am, when I wake up to rush into school runs, the early one for my older daughter (she’s 14 and I often call her an “insufferable teenager” :-)) and the second run for my younger girl, who is 10 (a curly hair smiling girl and not a teenager yet, fortunately!). In between the school runs and precisely at…
7.40 a.m., I take off my all time favorite uniform, a.k.a. leggings-oversized tees-biker boots, and I dress up with dresses and high heels to transform myself to what the world know me as, namely a lawyer (surprise, surprise, lawyers can be creative!) and drive to my office, to arrive at…
8.30 a.m., grab a strong coffee, turn on my pc, ignore all incoming emails and deadlines and for half an hour indulge into the colorful creative online world of crocheters both from this one and from the other side of the pond (and sometimes secretly crochet a bit). But as we all understand, I soon have to force myself out of this happiness and start working for long hours and at least until…
5.30 p.m., where I shut down computers, stack my paperwork into piles to wait for the next day, fight a headache, grab a bottle of water to have next to me as I drive back home, just to pick up the girls and at
7 p.m., rush into the girls’ afterschool activities; whatever comes into your mind, you may find them there, be it classic ballet classes, modern dance, hip hop, or piano and flute and English language lessons… overactivity but at least to the right direction: art, languages and music. It’s in the midst of the girls’ afternoon activities that I find the slot to take some me-time and so at…
8 p.m. (yes I know, it’s late for normal standards, but we live in a city that never sleeps and kids don’t return home before 9 p.m….), I climb the stairs to a beautiful Pilates studio and try to keep my shoulders down, my belly tight, my legs close, my arms straight, my neck loose, multitasking, I know, but, can I confess?, I absolutely love Pilates!
9.30 p.m. Finally, we’re back home and full into the “have something to eat,- get a shower- prepare schoolbags and clothes for tomorrow-brush your teeth- no, it’s too late for tv- go to bed” (the last part is sometimes a bit loud :-)) and at
10.30 p.m., the house is quiet, I cook for the next day, my husband is still at work
and when all errands are done, I sit on the couch with a cup of anything-non caffeinated and yes, whew, at last, I grab my wip and start crocheting.
That’s a glimpse into my life, just a glimpse; it’s overloaded, hectic, tiring, but at the same time, it’s a beautiful life, full of happiness and creativity, be it raising up the girls, or having an interesting job, or –of course- playing with yarn.
And we have a country cottage, pretty near to Athens, an old house sitting amidst an orange tree croft. It’s where my dad has been born, a small house built back in the ’30s. We sometimes manage to escape there on weekends, most often in spring and summer. If I were called to name one inspiration for me, one place where I feel most happy and calm, it’s the name of this place that I’d whisper, my paradise as I call it.
So, nice to be here, hope I’ll meet new friends and fellows from around the world and share some snapshots of my life. Thanks for stepping by, I really appreciate it
I raise my cup of coffee to the new journey 🙂
